He decided to train as a chef and completed his studies with honours, combined with work placements in the most reputable restaurants in the Basque Country. Both Martín Berasategui and Goizeko Kabi saw Diego Guerrero pass through their kitchens in his homeland. In 2001 he won the Pil Pil Award for Basque Gastronomy for the best traditional dish, his “egg with bread and pancetta”, today a classic in many restaurants.
